New “KarlHabegger.com” WordPress Theme
As part of the transition from “The Replacement Komics” to “Karl Habegger” I’m working on creating a new WordPress theme and Content Management System. It is substantially more complex than previous themes I’ve used. I’ve worked on a lot of WordPress themes and skins, but this is the first time I’ve built one from the ground up.
I hope to have it completely up to date by the end of October, but in the meantime here is a screen shot to tantalize you!
Let me know what you think. This theme uses a minimal amount of images for the theme. Most of the content is image related and so I wanted to make the theme as light as possible. There are a total of six images used in the design. Four of them are icons for facebook, twitter, email, and RSS links. The fifth is a small background icon. The last is a simple white fade employed in DIV backgrounds.
I’ve made use of the new WordPress function that uses “featured images”. This allows me to standardize thumbnails where I want to and still use the loop. I’ve been doing similar things manually for some time, so it is nice to have a built-in capability.
This theme is highly customized to my wants and needs, but building it has given me a great deal of knowledge about how I will design my next WordPress template.
